A Note From the Principal

Hello BEMS families,

We hope this letter finds your family happy and healthy at this time.  We are sending this letter to help clarify educational expectations for your student in the coming weeks of school closure and to help you know what to expect related to education and teacher contact.  We understand how busy and stressful all of this is with the ever-changing atmosphere around COVID-19. Please know that we are all navigating this together.

All Bems teachers have prepared packets of  learning activities that many of you have picked up or are picking up today. If you are unable to pick up materials, we will make sure they are delivered to you. Fifth grade and Middle school teachers are using a combination of paper materials and google classroom, and PreK-4 will use the SeeSaw platform to supplement paper packets that were sent home.   Please note:  all students will receive a paper packet of materials if needed. We understand that some students

  • do not have internet access at home

  • those with IEP/504/EST plans may have teachers or special educators who are sending some additional materials or tools that could be helpful to them at home

All materials being posted or sent home to students were made to “maintain learning”.   This means that no new material is being addressed in the work.  These activities are intended to help kids keep up with learning, keep productively busy and stay engaged!

Throughout the coming weeks, teachers will be communicating with students in a variety of ways.  Your child’s teacher(s) will be checking in via email, video chat, Google Classroom, SeeSaw, and/or a phone call at least once or twice per week.  Other teachers and staff may also be reaching out to students they normally work with using the same platforms. Students and parents are encouraged to email teachers if they would like a check-in for either questions about activities or just to say hello!  As with usual school days, teachers will be available for student questions and check-ins between the regular school hours of 8am-3:30 pm.

If you have any technology questions you are also welcome to contact our I.T. Tech. for BEMS: Marty Cota. He is available via email at Please leave a phone number and the issues you may be facing and he will get back to you. We also want to let you all know that BEMS is providing Free Public WIFI available in the school parking lot during this time. To log in Please choose “BEMS public wifi” then click connect. We hope this will be helpful to our families.

Please feel free to email myself or Michele Plouff at any time over the coming weeks.  We are happy to answer any questions regarding your student’s maintenance of learning activities, food delivery, or anything else you may need.  We hope you continue to stay healthy in the coming weeks. Know that we will miss our students a great deal, and are looking forward to connecting with them in a variety of ways during this time!
